Critiquing poetry is about understanding and analyzing a poem. Once you’ve come to an understanding of the meaning of the poem, you can begin to respond to it.

 

Whether the poet is in the room or not, you, as the reader and interpreter of the poem, can provide a useful reaction that can help contribute towards comprehending the poem. By learning how to read and understand poems, you can acquire the tools you need to provide a critical response to them.
